Support for organic research in the "Horizon Europe" programme
On 17 April 2019, the European Commission adopted the provisional agreement on Horizon Europe, the EU’s research & innovation programme for the period 2021-2027 - and organic farming is on the agenda.
The internationale umbrella organisation "IFOAM Organics International" succeeded to add support to organic farming and use and delivery of ecosystem services in primary production, e.g. through agroecology in the upcoming "Horizon Europe" programme.
This is a big achievement, because it legally binds the European Commission to fund research for organic farming and agroecology. The Specific Programme that mentions these phrases still needs to be approved by the Council.
