Broad Political Agreement Secures 55 million DKK for Organic Research
A new agreement on the 2025 Research Reserve allocates 2.3 billion DKK to green research initiatives, including 55 million DKK for organic research through the Organic RDD programme.
As one of several initiatives within organic agriculture, the government and a large majority in the Danish Parliament have allocated 55 million DKK to organic research via the Organic RDD research programme. The programme is coordinated by ICROFS in collaboration with GUDP under the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries.
The allocation is 5 million DKK higher than in 2021, 2022, and 2023, but 15 million lower than in 2024. ICROFS’ Chairman Jørn Jespersen states:
"The funding from the Research Reserve ensures that we can continue supporting the research so essential to realising Denmark's ambitions for growth and development in organic agriculture and to maintaining our current international leadership in this field. This funding allows us to continue our work on the contribution of organic agriculture to climate and environmental improvements, biodiversity, health, and animal welfare as central elements of the green transition."
The political agreement emphasises that organic agriculture is an important part of the green transformation of farming, given the fact that increasing the area under organic cultivation will promote production with less fertiliser and without synthetic pesticides. This will lead to a reduction in nitrogen emissions per hectare, benefiting the climate, environment, drinking water, and nature.
New Round of the Organic RDD Programme
The funding from the Research Reserve will go toward the 11th round of the Organic RDD program, which is expected to open in January with a submission deadline in May. This call will be aimed at research projects with a development and/or demonstration component. ICROFS’ Research and Development Strategy 2023 will guide the call and is available here for reference.

About the Organic RDD Programme
Organic RDD stands for "Organic Research, Development, and Demonstration Program," a Danish research initiative focused on organic farming and food systems, coordinated by ICROFS in collaboration with GUDP (Green Development and Demonstration Program), which funds the program.
GUDP, in partnership with ICROFS (International Centre for Research in Organic Food Systems), issues separate calls for applications to the Organic RDD program. The projects aim to support business-oriented innovation within the Danish organic food sector through green transition, promoting both green and economic sustainability.
