Workshop 4

On the 15th -19th September 2014, the project members met in Kampala, Uganda for the 4th Project Training Workshop.

Overall theme: Synthesising knowledge for scientific and general dissemination.
Course theme: High value chain development in relation to global food systems,
food sovereignty and global social change.

Workshop 3

On the 9th -13th September 2013, the project members met in Nairobi Kenya for the 3rd Project Training Workshop.

Overall theme: Rural development related to organic agricultural and value chain development and dissemination

Workshop 2

19-23 September, 2012, the project met in Arusha in Tanzania for the 2nd Project Training Workshop.

Overall theme: Research Methodologies in Organic Food and Farming Research with emphasis on the analytical aspects of a scientific process. Discipline oriented research methodologies and interdisciplinary research was discussed.

Students presented their work in posters that was put on display during all 5 days:


During the workshop the project visited farmers producing organic coffee and the organic coffee growers cooperative under organic vegetables farmers.

The project also organized a Stakeholder Workshop to consult stakeholders from the organic value chain on the potential of the organic production in general and specifically with regard to the tourism sector as well as to share the experience from the project. Workshop 1

16-23 May 2011, the project held its 1st Project Training Workshop in Uganda.

Participating in the workshop were the nine PhD and six MSc students from Makerere University in Uganda, University of Nairobi in Kenya, and Sokoine University of Tanzania and their supervisors from the three universities as well as Aarhus University and University of Copenhagen together with representatives from the organic organisations NOGAMU, TOAM and KOAN and the coordinators from ICROFS.

The workshop was the first occasion for all the participants to meet.

One of the aims of the workshop was to further develop the PhD and MSc studies and to ensure the relevance and integration of the studies according to the value chains and participatory approaches of the project.
At the workshop a broad spectrum of issues and research tools were presented and discussed to help familiarize the participants with organic value chains and appropriate research methodologies and interdisciplinary value chain approaches relevant for the project.
